Urban Learning and Leadership Center has had the opportunity to work with educators throughout the United States. We fully realize that state standards and high-stakes testing drive instruction for many teachers. Unfortunately, in attempting to prepare students for success on state assessments, many teachers are failing to teach students how to think. Classrooms that focus on the ability of students to simply recall content are teaching students WHAT to think. When students are taught HOW to think through rigorous assessment items, schools meet or exceed state and federal academic standards. This session will introduce teachers to a research-supported tool designed to enhance rigor in classrooms, and help students think at higher levels.
